10 Things You Should Always Avoid While Going To Fancy Restaurants

Most people do not hesitate to grab a quick nibble or order a meal at a restaurant. Reading these menu items makes your stomach jealous, and all you probably think about is obtaining some great food as soon as possible. But, when it comes to the restaurant industry, a healthy dose of skepticism is always a good thing. Because knowing the secrets of the food industry is the one thing that may turn delicious cuisine into an unappealing mess.

The Dishwasher

I work as a dishwasher at one of my local restaurants, and I guess my kitchen is very different from other people's. Every night, I have to scrub the kitchen floor, and I take joy in cleaning your dishes; whenever I consider half-assing a work, I ask myself if I want to eat off a s**t plate. No, it does not. I f*****g make sure your silverware is clean. I'm washing your mugs. I make sure the pans your food is prepared on are up to the standards I would want my food to be cooked on. Even though the other dishwasher is paid $15 per hour, I am not compensated much. I get paid 9/hr and I really do care about how clean everything is.

DO NOT COME IN RIGHT BEFORE CLOSING AND ORDER SOMETHING LIKE A STEAK!

DO NOT COME IN JUST BEFORE CLOSING TIME AND ORDER A STEAK! If the restaurant shuts at 11 p.m. and you walk in at 10:50, chances are the grill has already been cleaned and everything has been put away. I understand that they are still open, but in most cases, the cook has already been there for 12 hours and is eager to get out. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the cook simply place your wonderful juicy sirloin in the microwave and nuke the living s**t out of it.

Shameless plug

I work for Five Guys, and everything is brand new. There is no freezer. There was a lot of hand washing and glove changing. Every day, we clean the soda machine and the ice chutes. Everything, including the imperishable, is FIFO'ed. We get a private audit once a quarter to ensure that the restaurant is spotless. The mushrooms are packaged in a bag... That's pretty much it. They aren't, however, disgusting.

This is the nerdiest post ever. Who is so concerned about the cleanliness of their chain restaurant? Apparently, I am.

The Ice Machines At Subways

When I worked at Subway (hopefully not every Subway), the ice machine was cleaned out approximately three times in my five years there. I had the privilege of cleaning it once. It was contaminated with mould. Since then, I've never had ice in any of my drinks.

The Reality Of Buffet

Anything from the buffet, salad bar, or anything. It took covid to make me realize how disgusting the general populace is when there are no penalties for being so disgusting. I've had several individuals ask me why it was a problem to take a spoon from a seafood meal and use it to fetch some Mac & cheese or anything. I've witnessed individuals licking their cutlery. People have reached in with their bare hands to fetch a biscuit. I've seen kids get their own food and all the risks it entails.

Overpriced Appetizers

Appetizers, just for kicks. I enjoy onion rings, but spending $13 for an order because it is served as a tower is absurd. Some restaurants now charge the same price for appetizers as they do for entrees.
