Russia is by far the coldest inhabited place on earth and it is a normal for the locals to brace through icy, cold winters. This one though, has been a scary, icy, cold time where in Norilsk, it snowed for 5 days continuously and the city got 2 months worth of snow in just 5 days!

MOUNTAINS OR ROADS?

Norilsk is at the Northern most end of Russia and the temperature here usually dips to about -24 degrees in the winters. At the peak February winters, there are about 45 odd days of darkness and that's how the locals survive or more like have learnt to survive!

WHITE CHRISTMAS IS ROUND THE CORNER!

Last week, for 5 continuous days, Norilsk faced heavy snowfall and while this is something that they are used to for the extreme winters, no one was prepared to deal with 2 months worth of snow in just 5 days!

A WOMAN SITS ON A MOUNTAIN OF SNOW!

The Krasnoyarsk hydrometeorological center reported that there has been a whopping 194% of the monthly precipitation falling in the past week. On top of that, the locals have to deal with icy wind gusts reaching 22-27 mts/second. If this doesn't sound snowy, we don't know what does!

CLEARANCE TIME?

Life in Norilsk may not be as dreamy as we are assuming it to be. Snow can be a tough time to survive and SO MUCH snow can definitely take its toll on the locals. No amount of clearance trucks or shoveling seem to be helping the case!

THE HARSH REALITY!

Norilsk is not just famous for being a freezing wonderland, but also for being one of the biggest producer of pollutants. New York Times once reported that the Norilsk Nickel company emitted such a high dose of effluents that "area twice the size of Rhode Island has been turned into a dead zone of lifeless tree trunks, mud, and snow"

AIN'T NO NEED FOR BUS!

Because of this harsh pollution levels the water in the river Daldykan have turned red. Most locals choose to spend their leisure time indoors, especially during the Winters. The issue is so serious here that taxi business is constantly booming. Due to the harsh winters, no one wants to wait for the buses and even if they do, they probably do it inside a store!
