9/11 will undoubtedly go down in history as the one that changed a lot of lives - for good or for bad is a discussion for another day. But there is no denying the fact that lives did change. For the visually impaired Michael Hingson, that day was truly a life defining one.

WHO IS MICHAEL HINGSON!

Well to put it simply Michael Hingson is just one really lucky dude. Hingson, a visually impaired sales manager worked on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. Now you may wonder, how does that make him a lucky man!?

ROSELLE, THE GUIDE DOG!

Hingson, pretty much relied fully on his guide dog, a golden labrador called Roselle. With all her little quirks, Roselle was his true friend, guiding him the right directions (quite literally) On 9/11, as Hingson worked away on his desk, Roselle was busy in her siesta by his feet!

THE ATTACK!

It was about 8.30 am and Roselle was in the middle of her nap as something went off loudly. The hijacked plane had rummaged into the 110 storey building causing the tower to sway under the impact. Hingson sensed the tension around him as the rooms were instantly covered in debris and smoke and panic ensued!

ROSELLE STAYED CALM!

While the people around Hingson panicked, he says he clearly remembers that Roselle was calm. "She didn’t sense any danger in the smoke and flames, everything happening around us. If she had sensed danger she would have acted differently, but she didn’t. Roselle and I were a team and I trusted her."

SHE TOOK SOME GREAT ACTIONS THAT DAY!

Hingson had undergone some fire drills and knew that they had to stay away from the elevators. He commanded Roselle to move and she did - calmly guiding him and 30 of his colleagues down 78 floors. They descended 1,463 steps with all sorts of debris falling over them and thick smoke in the air. After about an hour, they reached the ground floor. When they reached down, their feet was wobbly and they were exhausted - but the danger was not yet over!

THE TOWER COMES DOWN!

In a few seconds Twin Tower 2 started to give way and crumbled to the ground. The panic, Hingson says, was so high that at that point, no one cared about anyone else. All they wanted to do was save themselves. "If I hadn’t had Roselle and had to depend on a cane, I would have been much more vulnerable in the chaos and panic," Michael said, according to People. "But she was guiding me and I was pushing her. It was real teamwork."
