Have you ever heard of wind turbines? Most of you must have probably seen one too. Well, whenever you drive by farm you get to see them, but did you ever wondered why this wind turbines have three blades or two blades. Take a look inside .

Wind turbines

A wind is set up to harvest wind energy, it turns kinetic energy into electric energy. The kinetic energy helps in rotation of the blades of the turbines which rotates the rotor to which they are attracted.

Its existence

Wind turbines has its existence for a longer time. Earlier they were used for pulverizing grains and pumping water, but nowadays, it is used mostly to generate electric energy. For over the years they have undergone a huge change.

Three blades

There are various reasons behind its appearances, firstly three blades makes the whole component cost effective. If 4 blades are put instead of three blades, it will ultimately increase the cost of a wind turbine.

Four blades

Therefore, Four blades makes the whole component cost effective by increase in the cost thereby making it less cost efficient. Moreover, putting four blades of size equal to that of three blade wind turbine will make it heavier.

Two blades

Why can't we use two blades wind turbines? Each blades of a wind turbine helps the following blade in rotation by disturbing the air so you to keep a minimum number of blades. Although, two blades are minimum number to balance the turbine and harvest maximum energy.

Match the three turbine

Well, two blades turbine can match the power output of that three blade wind turbine if we increase the length of the blade by 50% which ultimately increases the cost of turbine. when the two-blade wind turbine rotate faster, they make more noise. We know that people don’t like living in a noisy neighborhood. So, we can’t increase the speed of the blades as it will be very disturbing for the people living in the surrounding area.
