Our world has seen some amazingly talented people. There are artists who have passed away but are yet remembered for their amazing work. We have 6 such popular paintings by popular artists that are holding some very interesting secrets in them.
Woman at a Window

Okay, so we really don't know who made this painting but it is an extremely popular one! On the left, is a photo of the canvas during restoration where the primer coat can be seen. On the right side, is the canvas after the restoration. The canvas Woman at a Window belonging to an unknown painter, which is stored in the National Gallery of London, has a very interesting story.
So what is that story/secret that we don't know about? In 1978 the painting was sent for restoration where it was revealed that there lay another layer of painting of the same subject, but with different features, clothes and expressions. So why did the artist redo this masterpiece? Social pressure perhaps?
Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?

I kid you not, this is the title of this painting that you see! Now turns out Paul Gauguin weaved in a sense of of great mystery. About 5 feet in height and 12 feet in length, the artwork should be "read" from left to right like the Kabbalistic texts that Gauguin believed in. We bet you didn't know this, did you?
Girl with the Pearl Earrings!

Another very popular painting is Girl with the Pearl Earrings by Johannes Vermeer. Here, Vermeer depicted pearl that was way too big to seem natural. Now historians believe that this painting was a sham since the "pearl" in the picture could be anything from Venetian glass to tin! Wow!
School of Athens

One of the most popular paintings in the list is School of Athens by Raffaello Santi. Okay, this painting has a lot of secrets hidden in it! He embodied the images of great thinkers and scientists and also decided to perpetuate some of his famous friends in it. For example, he copied the appearance of Heraclitus, an ancient Greek philosopher, from Michelangelo Buonarroti (1), the philosopher Plato resembles Leonardo da Vinci (2), while the facial features of Raphael himself can be seen in the image of Apelles — an ancient Greek painter. Very interesting indeed!
Young Woman Powdering Herself

Even this painting by Georges Seurat has a hidden secret that nobody knows! Turns out the woman in the picture is the sweetheart of the painter whose name was Madeleine Knobloch. Turns out this art style was rather unusual for Seurat and perhaps love drove him to take to a style he otherwise shied away from! Lovely, right?
Figure at a Window

And here's another popular but equally controversial painting that we are going to talk about. This one was made by Salvador Dali. Before meeting Gala — the muse and love of his life, Salvador Dali asked his sister, Anna Maria, to pose for his paintings. Figure at a Window, the painting, shows her standing at the window gazing out at the world. But soon after their relationship turned sour and Anna published a book shaming Dali. In revenge, Dali made a painting in 1954, called Young Virgin Auto-Sodomized by the Horns of Her Own Chastity that resembled Figure at a Window. Crazy!
