History is super interesting and while some of us may want to believe otherwise, it is only basic human nature to stay surprised and bewildered by strange happenings. We all are united by a thread of history - where we learn from past mistakes (big or small) and take back life's biggest lessons from the past. But sometimes history has a tendency to spring up surprises like in these images!
GAS RESISTANT PRAM!
Europe of the 1900's was a tough place to be in, especially England. With the World Wars and political tensions practically usurping almost every country, it was truly tough. While the men went out to war, the women, children and elderly were left behind to bear the brunt of a toxic (literally) environment. So people developed ways to protect themselves, including gas masks and gas resistant prams. This was clicked in 1938 when Germany occupied Sudetenland. Doesn't the pram resemble a coffin?
NICOLA TESLA AND HIS ELECTRICITY!
A Serbian Engineer, physicist and futurist, Nicola Tesla is best known for his work on Alternating Current (A.C). When he arrived in the US in 1884, he worked under Edison. This image was clicked by Dickenson Alley and shows the Magnifying Transmitter that can produce millions of volts of electricity!
NEW BULLET PROOF VEST!
Innovation and experimentation is all good, but imagine being at the receiving end of a first time experiment - involving real life guns! Clearly this guy was not as scared as we are right now! This image is from the time they tested bullet proof vests for the first time. In the picture you can see WH Murphy (from Protective Garment Corporation of New York) and his assistant demonstrating the new jacket while a police officer looks on in suspicion. This picture was clicked in 1923!

She decided to create a record by traveling in a barrel over the Niagra. So she did. Her barrel containing her and her cat, was let go at the stream of Niagara and in a few hours she was found at the Canadian shore!
MGM LION!
Everyone who has watched movies knows about this dude - the one who roars the loudest at the opening of any MGM motion picture. Turns out it was actually recorded on set with the help of Jackie the Lion in 1928. According to the owner, Jackie didn't have a beautiful face but a big roar and was a fearless lion who survived a few crashes as well!
THE LAST BARBARY LION!
Speaking of Lions, the last Barbary lions were perhaps spotted in 1920's. Thats when they are said to have become extinct. The last one to spot a barbary lion was Marcelin Flanderin, on a flight from Casablanca to Dakar in 1925!

Turns out August Landmesser, the man who refused to salute the German Nazi leader, was in fact married to a jewish woman. They were seperated soon after their first child was born and the woman was tossed around in Nazi concentration camps till she ended up unfortunately dead. The children, on the other hand, went from one foster home to another. No wonder he refused to salute!
